FOR THE LOVE OF MOM

How this all began:

My mom has had a nerve type cough since she was around 6 yrs old.  She would have coughing spells that would put her into bed.  Any respiratory issues would set this off so of course pneumonia was going to do this in a big way.

When she and my stepdad came down with "Covid pneumonia" (my stepdad was never tested) around December 6th, she was trying not to cough so she would not take deep breathes and this led to her oxygen level getting too low.   She ended up going to the ER on Friday, December 10th, because she was so tired of coughing.  They kept her overnight then sent her home with some cough medicine and Dexamethasone (liquid steroid).  She was still coughing a lot so we spoke to her doctor about getting in home oxygen but the doctor said her oxygen was too low so she would have to go the ER again.  She really did not want to go (and my stepdad refused to go) but we called the paramedics, and they gave her some oxygen which helped her feel better but since they could not let her keep the oxygen and we couldn't get in home care she let them take her to the ER.  Mind you, my mom worked out 5-6 days a week, she hoped up out of her chair, to the shock of the paramedics, and walked to the ambulance!!!

I followed the ambulance to the hospital but was not allowed back right away which made me very nervous.  When I was able to go back, they had me dressed practically in a hazmat suit, but I was relieved to be with her.    They took her back for a CT Scan and when they started to put the contrast into her she started screaming!!!  The contrast had gone out of her vein and into her body cavity!!!  Just one more issue she had to go thru.....not knowing what was lying ahead......
***Note that my mom was ambulatory this whole time, at home and at the hospital (this was 10 days from when they first started feeling sick) until about the 20th when everything took a turn including her white blood cell count increasing which is an indicator of an infection but nothing was ever done!!**  I am still not sure when she contracted the MRSA but more than likely it was when she was at the hospital on the 10th and 11th then being on the high flow oxygen when she go back to the hospital pushed it into her lungs.....bottom line is that she was tested on the 16th, the results came back on the 18th and the "doctor" (he does not deserve that title!!) did nothing about it....he made a conscious decision not to treat his patient for something that can be fatal....
